Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Saturday, Jan. 31: At 8:52 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St for a report of an assault that had occurred several hours prior. A warrant has been applied for charging Patrick Michael Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson with domestic abuse assault- second offense (aggravated misdemeanor)*.
Friday, Jan. 30: At 2:36 pm Eye Care Associates reported theft. A check had been passed on a closed account.
Thursday, Jan. 29: At 10:46 am the Moorehead, MN, police department requested an officer’s assistance in locating a suspect in a fraud case. At 11:00 a complainant reported the theft of a coin box out of a dryer at 1402 Woodland Drive. At 3:26 pm a complainant reported a vehicle had been keyed while parked in the parking lot at the Greene County High School. ***As result of a complaint of trespass at Greene County High School on Jan. 28, Michael Carlson, 18, of Jefferson has been charged with trespass*. *** A warrant has been issued charging Carleton Tapley, 22, of Jefferson with theft – second degree (class D felony). The charges stem from a theft reported at Shopko on Jan. 23.
Wednesday, Jan. 28: At 11:31 a complainant reported an assault that had taken place at Greene County High School. Charges are pending completion of the investigation. At 1:02 pm a complaint of trespass was taken at Greene County HS. Charges are pending at this time. At 1:30 pm an officer arrested Russell Gardner, 39, of Jefferson on outstanding warrants for domestic abuse – assault (class D felony) and obstructing emergency communications (simple misdemeanor)*. At 5:07 pm Genesis Development staff reported a theft at 401 W. McKinley Street. At 5:32 pm a complainant reported the harassment of two minor children who were in a parked vehicle in the 100 block of W. State St.
Tuesday, Jan. 27: At 8:51 am officers assisted with a personal injury traffic accident on E. Lincoln Way just east of the Jefferson Cemetery. At 12:09 pm an officer was advised of an abandoned 911 call and when the dispatcher called back, she could hear a female crying. The phone number was tracked back to a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St. The officer went to the residence and determined a domestic disturbance had taken place and a male had left the residence on foot. The officer was unable to locate the male in the area. A warrant was issued charging Russell Lee Gardner, 39, of Jefferson with domestic abuse assault – third or subsequent offense (class D felony) and obstructing emergency communications (simple misdemeanor)*. At 12:49 pm an officer located a stolen tractor trailer grain trailer that had been parked forsome time at 606 Sparky’s. The trailer was stolen out of Manning. At 6:27 pm an officer arrested Kimberly Smith, 41, of Jefferson at a residence in the 300 block of W. Head St on an outstanding warrant for harassment – first degree (aggravated misdemeanor for an incident on Jan. 17 at Shopko*.
Monday, Jan. 26: At 12:10 am a traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Wilson resulted in the arrest of three people. Sico Boateng Jr, 17, of Jefferson was charged with possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense*; the charges were referred to Juvenile Court Serivces. He was also cited for failure to prove security against liability and dark windows. Mark Anthony Salinas, 17, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and booked into the Greene County jail*. Gabriel Jamison Wiggins, 18, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession marijuana and was booked into the Greene County jail*. At 10:50 am Wells Fargo reported a counterfeit $20 bill that had been passed at a local business. At 2:35 pm Shelley Leesley reported her red 1994 Ford F-150 pickup had been parked in the 300 block of N. Oak St and had been struck by a red Ford Ranger, which then drove away. The incident remains under investigation.
Sunday, Jan. 25: At 9 am a complainant reported criminal mischief that had occurred at 201 South Oak Street.
Saturday, Jan. 24: Routine activity reported.
Friday, Jan. 23: At 3:06 pm a Shopko manager reported an employee theft situation at the business. An investigation has begun. At 4 pm Greene County school district staff reported a situation involving a male juvenile with a knife on a school bus. The officer is investigating.
Thursday, Jan. 22: Routine activity reported.
Wednesday, Jan. 21: At 9 am a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 800 block of W. State St. An electronic device, concert tickets and other miscellaneous items were reported stolen.
Tuesday, Jan. 20: At 1:13 am a traffic stop at N. Elm and W. Washington St resulted in an officer arresting Delaney Brakey, 24, of Boone for driving while revoked (serious misdemeanor)*. At 11:48 am Jeremy Labate reported his 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse had been struck in the student parking lot at the high school. Shyla Schwering had attempted to park a 2001 Ford Taurus in the spot next to Labate’s vehicle but she slid on ice and struck the Mitsubishi. Damage to Labate’s vehicle was estimated at $500. No citation was issued due to the incident occurring on private property. At 7:13 pm Carla Sims reported a grease fire at 104 S. Oak Street, Apt. 1. Officers found no fire upon their arrival but removed a pan of boiling oil from the stove. The Jefferson fire department cleared the apartment of the smoke. At 9:46 pm Doug Rieder reported a hit and run accident that occurred in the parking lot at the middle school. Rieder returned to his 2009 Chevrolet Equinox to find the bumper cover hanging off of it. The officer estimated the damage at $1,000.
Monday, Jan. 19: At 6:20 pm Juvenile Court Services requested an officer pick up a juvenile that had been consuming alcoholic beverages at a residence in the 300 block of N. Pinet St and transport him to the Law Enforcement Center until arrangements could be made to transport him to a juvenile facility. Justin Lopez, 16, of Jefferson was cited for minor in possession of tobacco and possession of an alcoholic beverage under age 21*.
Sunday, Jan. 18: At 3:11 am a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St. Charges are pending at this time. At 3:58 am a traffic stop in the 100 block of S. Elm St resulted in an officer detaining two juveniles after he detected to the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their persons. Justin Lopez, 16, of Jefferson was charged with violation of instruction permit limitation, possession of an alcoholic beverage under the age of 21 and was cited for a curfew violation*. Torey Baugh, 14, of Jefferson was charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage under the age of 21 and was cited for a curfew violation*. Both were released to a parent.
Saturday, Jan. 17: At 2 am an officer was called to the 100 block of S. Chestnut St for an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. The officer was advised that a gun may have been involved. A sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and attempted to speak to the male. The male ran from the deputy after repeated orders to stop. The officer found the male in the 100 block of E. Harrison St and ordered him to the ground. Trinity Welch, 25, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors*. No weapon was located. At 6:48 pm an officer was notified of a stop sign that had been struck on the frontage road in the 600 block of E. Highway 30. The officer placed a temporary sign at that location until the DOT could install a new one. At 8:15 pm a complainant reported harassment at Shopko. The complainant reported that as she and a male walked to their vehicles a female at a residence in the 300 block of W. Head St began screaming threats towards them. Charges are pending at this time.
Friday, Jan. 16: At 8:32 am an officer was advised of a collision that had occurred the previous day in the student parking lot at the high school. Nolan Ford had backed from a parking stall and had proceeded southbound, striking the side of a parked vehicle owned by Mary Millard. Both Ford’s 1976 GMC pickup truck and Millard’s 2000 Chevrolet Lumina sustained at estimated $500 in damage. No citation was issued as the incident occurred on private property. At 10:25 am a resident dropped off at the Law Enforcement Center a cat which had been found in the 800 block of S. Vine St. At 11:39 am a complainant reported the burglary to a garage in the 700 block of S. Elm St. Nothing is believed to have been taken. At 11:40 am an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the 200 block of N. Elm St. Fatima Medrano-Agreda was northbound on Elm St and stopped to turn westbound onto State St when she was struck from behind by Eliza Smith. Medrano-Agreda was transported by Greene; County EMS to Greene County Medical Center for possible injuries. Smith was cited for failure to stop in a safe assured clear distance ahead. Damage to Medrano-Agreda’s 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Smith’s 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was also estimated at $1,500. At 3:29 pm a complainant reported harassment that took place in the 100 block of E. State St. At 4:21 pm an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision where a car struck a building at 308 Greenewood Road. Wayne Lind had pulled a 2003 Mercury Marquis into a parking stall and had reached for the glove box. As he did, he stepped on the accelerator, causing his vehicle to jump a curb and strike the building. Damage to the building was estimated at $15,000. Damage to Lind’s 2003 Mercury Marquis was estimated at $500. The officer did not issue a citation as the incident occurred on private property.
Thursday, Jan. 15: At 11:46 am Amelia Kennedy reported a backing collision in the 1500 block of Hawthorne Lane. Bruce Keeney backed a 2014 Toyota Tundra from a driveway and struck Kennedy’s 2005 Chrysler Pacifica in the driver’s door causing an estimated$1,000 in damage. Keeney was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway.

Tuesday, Jan. 13: At 8:39 am a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 900 block of W. Washington St for harassment. At 5:35 pm a complainant reported door to door salesmen selling carpet cleaners in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. The officer contacted the salesman and told him he needed to register at City Hall before he could continue with his activity. At 6:32 pm a complainant reported trespass at Park Ave South. The officer found a resident that was not comfortable with a door to door salesman. The officer learned the male was part of a group that had already been told they needed to register at city hall before they could continue with their activity.

Sunday, Jan. 11: at 12:23 pm an officer was requested at Shopko for a female yelling at store employees. After viewing the situation the officer arrested Kimberly Marie Smith, 41, of Jefferson on charges of assault and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors*. At 2:15 pm an officer took a report of an assault that occurred Jan. 10 at Casey’s (N. Elm St). The incident remains under investigation.
Saturday, Jan. 10: At 7:30 pm a complainant reported harassment by text messaging and on Facebook at a residence in the 600 block of W. Washington St.
Friday, Jan. 9: Routine activity reported.
Thursday, Jan. 8: At 12:15 pm officers assisted with a residential fire at 405 E. Perry Street.
Wednesday, Jan. 7: At 7:48 am a report was received of a white pickup that had lost control on the north side of the overpass and had struck a street light, knocking it down. Upon the officer’s arrival, the vehicle had left the scene. Jordan Hostetler contacted an officer later in the day and reported the incident. Hostetler told the officer as he was northbound on the overpass, the rear brakes locked up, causing him to lose control and strike the light pole. Damage to the light pole was estimated at $2,800. Damage to Hostetler’s 2004 Chevrolet K2500 pickup was estimated at $500. Hostetler was cited for failure to maintain control. At 3:46 pm staff at Genesis Development reported a 24-year-old male had been bitten by a dog as he walked on the sidewalk in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way on Jan. 3. The officer will contact the owner of the animal and appropriate action will be taken relating to ordinances pertaining to the issue. At 4:48 pm an officer assisted with a medical call where a male had fallen and had been lying on the ground for several minutes in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St.
Tuesday, Jan. 6: At 5:46 am an officer had a vehicle towed which was parked facing the wrong direction and at an angle protruding in to traffic in the 300 block of W. Clark St. The vehicle was later reported stolen from 400 N. Cedar St. At 11:38 am a complainant reported the burglary to a steel building and the theft of a black 1978 Chevrolet Camaro from the 400 block of N. Cedar St. The vehicle had been found by an officer earlier in the morning in the 300 block of W. Clark St and towed. An investigation was initiated. At 1:47 pm an officer was advised of a vehicle which had gone in the ditch near the bridge on Grimmell R. Randy Wittrock had dropped his vehicle off the shoulder and when he attempted to correct the vehicle, he lost control of the vehicle and went into the opposite ditch. The officer estimated $1,000 in damage to Wittrock’s 2013 Toyota Highlander. Wittrock was cited for failure to maintain control.
Monday, Jan. 5: At 3:13 pm a complainant reported harassment which occurred at Greene County High School. At 7:48 pm an officer was advised of a two vehicle collision that occurred at W. McKinley and N. Pinet St. Chad Louk was northbound on Pinet; he stopped as posted at the intersection with McKinley. Brock Louk was westbound on McKinley. As Chad Louk pulled away from the stop sign the vehicles collided. Damage to Chad Louk’s 2003 Ford F-350 pickup truck was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Brock Louk’s 2007 Pontiac G6 was estimated at $1,000. *** A warrant has been issued charging Lance Michael Ross, 17, of Grand Junction with criminal mischief- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The charge stems from an investigation initiated on Dec. 3 at Daubendiek Park where signs had been shot up with a BB gun.
Sunday, Jan. 4: At 1:36 pm a complainant reported trespass by a 17-year-old male at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St. The boy was located by the officer and given a ride to the LEC where he was warned not to return to the residence, and then picked up by his father. At 3:10 pm a complainant reported reported harassing phone calls from a restricted number occurring at a residence in the 100 block of W. Vest St.
Saturday, Jan. 3: At 9:24 am staff at Kum and Go reported a gas pump had been struck by an unknown vehicle, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.
Friday, Jan. 2: At 8:59 am a complainant reported the burglary to a vehicle in the 1200 block of S. Elm St.
Thursday, Jan. 1: While conducting a traffic stop at Maple and Russell Streets, an officer smelled an alcoholic beverage coming from one of the vehicles occupants. Sydney Greer, 20, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage under age 21*. ***Pursuant to an investigation initiated on Dec. 18 in the 200 block of S. Vine St an officer has charged Jordan Teeples, 15, of Jefferson with false report to public safety entity (serious misdemeanor)*. The charge was referred to Juvenile Court Services. At 10 pm a Dollar General employee reported a vehicle running in the parking lot with someone in it. The officer found a male who smelled of marijuana sleeping in the driver’s seat. The officer found the male, Russell Lee Gardner, 39, of Jefferson to have an active warrant out of Greene County for failure to appear on a charge of theft- fifth degree. The officer arrested Gardner and found drug paraphernalia on his person. Gardner was transported to the Greene County law enforcement center where field sobriety testing was conducted. Gardner was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence – second offense and possession of marijuana (both aggravated misdemeanors) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.
